Please vote “FOR” the proposition on November 4, 2014

http://vote.utah.gov/vote/profile/viewPDF.html?id=236240839

Follow the above link to learn about the proposition to renew Uintah County’s ZAP (Zoo, Arts & Parks Tax). This sales tax rate of 1/10 of 1 % has existed since 1996 and mainly keeps the Western Park complex in operation.

It must be renewed every ten years and will be on the ballot on Nov. 4, 2014

As a big part of that, to us (the Uintah Arts Council & Outlaw Trail Theater), it provides a venue for performances, rehearsal space, costume storage, dressing rooms and storage space for the Outlaw Trail Theater. If the ZAP tax is not renewed, the Outlaw Trail Theater could be essentially out of business.

Of course there is also the Ice Skating Arena, the Uintah County Fair, the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo, bull riding, many equestrian events and facilities, etc.. No, the new conference center that is under construction will not take over and replace everything that happens at Western Park… it will definitely provide some community benefits, but we still need Western Park for many, many activities.

Please vote “FOR” the proposition on November 4, 2014.

To put it in perspective, if you buy $300.00 worth of groceries at the grocery store, $.30 (30 cents) will go to the ZAP tax.

Please pass this on and encourage everyone to understand what the ZAP tax is and what it’s used for.

Five nights left of LES MISÉRABLES

As we’re getting down to the wire now, we’ll probably have daily posts.
Where else could you see a production of LES MISÉRABLES like this one? We have a cast of 67 fabulous singers, a staff of nearly 30 that helps put the show on every night… or helped get it on stage. We have fresh air, green grass, open skies and a wonderful play. LES MISÉRABLES has become the most popular play in the world… and you can see it right here in rural, Vernal, Utah. And a ticket for this show costs about 1/3 of what the gasoline would cost you to drive to SLC, one way.

The crowds have been good and very, very responsive and appreciative, but don’t let your chance to see it slip away. It will run tonight(Monday), Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday this week… and then it’s gone. There is NO show on Friday, July 4th. Tickets are very easy to get online, either through this website (OutlawTrailTheater.com) or go to http://lesmisvernal.brownpapertickets.com . If you really need to get your hands on a physical ticket, you can visit the Uintah County Heritage Museum in Vernal at 155 East Main Street, and they will help you get a ticket, especially if you’re not comfortable using the internet. As always, you can walk up to the box office in the amphitheater at Western Park and buy your tickets right there.

Right now, go get tickets, mark your calendar, set an alarm and make your plans to get to Western Park and see LES MISÉRABLES… before you miss it. You will be very, very glad you did!

Share to help spread the word!

If you have friends who might be interested in auditioning for Les Misérables and they are not on a Uintah Arts Council mailing list, not a member of the Outlaw Trail Theater Cast & Crew group on Facebook or have not liked the Outlaw Trail Theater Facebook page, they may never see the audition announcement unless you “Share” it. As nice as it is to “Like” a post, it doesn’t go any further. It just sits there in “Like” land, smiling for you to see and for the original poster to see… maybe a few other “likers”. We get a kick out of being “liked”, but we quite often need to be “shared”. In fact, you don’t even have to “like” on of our posts to “share” it. We promise not to hold you emotionally or psychologically hostage for “sharing” our posts. Quite the opposite, we will sing your praises and thank you profusely for helping us spread the news.

Now, please “Share” this… and ask everyone else to “Share” it.

Director Named for Les Misérables

The Outlaw Trail Theater proudly announces that Brian Litton has been named as the Director of the summer 2014 production of Les Misérables. Brian has 25 productions on his list of accomplishments, 15 of those as Music Director, and 10 consecutive years as Music Director for the Outlaw Trail Theater. He has acted as Music Director for Director Deveni Hill in Anything Goes and The Sound of Music, for Director Taunia Wheeler in Damn Yankees and Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, for Director David Gale in Wizard of Oz, for Director Jay Haslem in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and for Director Denice Allen in Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Wild Bunch. He also served as Music Director for Director Ron Litton in Star of Justice. He orchestrated and recorded all of the music for The Music Man and South Pacific (Music Director again).

Working with Producer/Director Chris Piner at Uintah High School, Brian has been responsible for the rehearsal and performance music for Brigadoon, She Loves Me, Once Upon a Mattress, Scarlet Pimpernel, Clue, The Wedding Singer, Phantom of the Opera, and Aida.

He has worked intimately with choreographers Taunia Wheeler, Deveni Hill, Robin McClellan, Barbara Piner and Annette Daggett.

Excited for his first “Director” opportunity, Les Misérables  is a “sung-through” musical… meaning that it’s all music. There is essentially no dialogue and no actual choreography so this “all-music” show is a great place to start.

Les Misérables is a huge production and will need a lot of our very talented locals. It may well be the biggest show ever done in the Basin… an opportunity to be carefully considered… to be a part of the “most popular musical in the world.”

Auditions for Les Misérables will be held at the end of April and rehearsals will begin on May 5, 2014. The show will open on June 23rd and will run through July 5th, with no shows on Sunday or on the 4th of July. Audition information can be found on the OutlawTrailTheater.com website and the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/OutlawTrailTheater) will keep posting information as it becomes available.
